Tomato sambar - Ingredients:

Tomatoes  2
small onions  5
Channa  dal  1 tbsp
dry red chillis  4
oil 1 tsp
tamarind   1/2 tsp
Thur dal 1/2 cup

Tomato sambar - Directions:
  1. Cook thur dal until soft. Mash it and keep aside.

  2. Pour the oil in the pan and put the red chillis, channa dal and fry till the dal is little golden brown.

  3. Then add the onions and fry for few minutes and finally add the tomatoes and keep stirring till it is soft.

  4. To this add thur dal mashed.

  5. Extract tamarind pulp and add to the pan.

  6. Then add salt and hing and then grind this into a soft

  7. paste. After that, mix it with water and boil for 5 to 7 mins till thick.

  8. Garnish with mustard seeds and curry leaves.

  9. Serve hot with dosa/idly/rice.
